Sweet Sixteen, Here We Come!

Edited 2014 (27 of 37)How is it possible that this girl is going to be 16 next month?  Seems like yesterday she was just a little toddler running around the house talking gibberish. Well, not too much has changed there.  I’m constantly asking her, what did you say? She talks faster than anyone I have ever met!

She is growing into such an amazing young woman. I am so proud of who she is becoming.

It’s not been a perfect ride by no means. Lots of changes over the past few years. Some good and some not-so-good. Seems like when you have a teenager in the house, you go back to being the parent of a newborn you just brought home from the hospital….. you absolutely have no idea what you’re doing.

I’ll be honest, a lot of the problems we have faced have pretty much been because of me and my attitude. Still wanting to have that control over her. Sometimes I forget, even though she is taller than I am, that she is not 5 years old. No longer can I make her wear what I want her to wear.  No longer can I make her take just two more bites. Or only watch PBS kids and listen to the Wheels on the Bus.

I remember my mom telling someone, you need to slowly start letting your children go when they are little.  At times it has been hard  but as I look back I can honestly say I am glad to have heard that advice and have tried to put it in practice.

I am so thankful that God allowed David and me to be her parents. That He blessed us with such a loving girl, who has a servants heart, and is not ashamed to share the gospel with others.

A daughter may outgrow your lap, but she will never outgrow your heart.

Christmas! The very word brings joy to our hearts. No matter how we may dread the rush, the long Christmas lists for gifts and cards to be bought and given–when Christmas Day comes there is still the same warm feeling we had as children, the same warmth that enfolds our hearts and our homes.”
